Food Parcels Fundraiser

We've been asking ourselves lately, "What does it mean to be led by the Holy Spirit?"

Recently we felt a nudge as a couple to create a fundraiser where we pack and distribute supplementary food parcels on top of the food parcels we've already been delivering through Hope Prison Ministry for the past few months. Often Marco would get asked by an onlooker upon delivering a HPM food parcel, "Sir, don't you have something extra for me?" Frequently during this year, we will have someone specific placed on our hearts by the Holy Spirit to reach out to, and ask how they are doing. Later, they would share that they are financially struggling during this time and/or have children in their household but not enough food. We know personally that it's a hard hit to the pride to ask someone for help.

"'What should we do then?' the crowd asked. John answered, 'Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.'" -Luke 3:10-11 NIV

We know that as missionaries, God has specifically placed us here for many reasons including to help our neighbors and those in need during this difficult season.

The intention behind this project is to help someone and their family get through the next few days/ week and to show them God's love and grace over their lives during a mysterious and tough season. We were inspired by the stories that were coming out of Hope Prison Ministry and our church's food parcel programs, and saw that there is still a greater need. We keep a parcel or two in the trunk of our car, just in case we bump into someone who the Holy Spirit has led us to that would really benefit from a blessing of food and God's love.

The math: $120 /R2000 allows us to purchase, pack, and distribute 10 full and 2 partial* supplementary food parcels.

Here's what's included in each Supplementary Food Parcel:

• 375ml cooking oil

• 1 tin of Apricot Jam

• 250g peanut butter

• 500g Self raising wheat flour

• 2 x 250g sugars

• 1 tin corned meat

• 1 tin of pilchards fish in tomato sauce

• 500g oats

• 4 x 17g Chicken stock

• 4 x 7g Chicken spice

• Tea sachets

• Coffee

• 500g Rice

• 500g Samp & Beans

• 500g Soup Mix

• Topper Biscuits

• 100g Soap

*the partial parcels due to bulk purchasing for now excludes sugar, soup mix, samp & beans, rice, and flour. But for a larger household we aim to give them a full and partial Supplementary Food Parcel.

One supplementary food parcel costs just $10 /R167 to help feed a family for a week. We purchase the food from Polarama Wholesalers which is a local South African business located in Paarl.
